Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to common questions about K12.io.
How do I get started?
Sign in, open the builder, and describe the app you want for your classroom. Answer a few questions about subject and grade level, and K12.io will generate a working prototype you can preview and refine.
What is the marketplace?
The marketplace is where educators publish apps they built and discover apps built by others. You can install a marketplace app into your own workspace and adapt it for your students.
Do my students need accounts?
Students don't create K12.io accounts. They sign in through your school's sign-in (such as Clever) and see your assigned apps on a simple student dashboard — no separate signup on their end. Roster syncing for districts is handled separately through school sign-in integrations.
Is K12.io free?
Yes — K12.io is free for teachers. District licenses are coming; exact plan details and pricing will be announced.
Do I keep the money when I sell an app on the marketplace?
You keep the charged total minus K12.io’s 30% platform fee. The fee is 30% of what the buyer actually pays — if a buyer uses a promotion code, the fee shrinks proportionally along with your share. Paid out through Stripe Connect in USD. You set your own prices.
When I buy a marketplace app, what do I actually own?
One-time purchases are buy-once-own-forever: Every one-time purchase is a perpetual license to the complete app — the logic and the structure. The buyer download (the app's source files; the original build prompt is not included) is not available yet, but your license covers it when it ships.
How is student privacy handled?
K12.io is built for educators and designed around COPPA and FERPA compliance. Student roster data is used solely for educational purposes, and you control what student-facing content you create and share. See our Privacy Policy for details.
